Shoe Selection in Children

25 February 2018 by emrekenan

Selecting the right shoes is definitive in foot development in school age. Most important property of the shoe shall be allowing walking for extended periods without causing discomfort. Shoe toes shall not be tight and heel support shall be sufficient. Purchasing larger size of shoes to last longer is also unfavourable. Selection of wrong shoes may lead to feet and ankle pains and in the future knee, hip and lower back problems.

Since feet may differ by shape and size, both shoes of the pair shall be tried on the child when purchasing shoes.

Children’s feet grow rapidly, especially up to age three. Therefore sizes of the shoes and the feet shall be checked every other month for children under two years and every three months for children between ages two and three.
