Hallux Valgus
Hallux valgus is a deformity characterized by a bony protrusion on the inner side of the big toe that bends outward and approaches the second toe. It may also occur secondary to primary disorders such as thigh and shin bone rotations and flat feet.
With aesthetic impairment of the foot:
- Callus formation
- Pain in the finger
- Problems with foot pressing can be seen
Diagnosis is based on physical examination and standing X-rays.
Treatment:
- In mild cases, wide-toed shoes and silicone rollers are recommended
- Surgical correction is required in advanced cases (osteotomy, soft tissue releases, etc.)
Surgical interventions performed in children should be planned by a pediatric orthopedist, considering the growth plates.
