Pes Planovalgus (Flat Feet)

Pes planovalgus is a common foot deformity in which the arch of the foot collapses and the heel slips outward. In children, it is often of the flexible type and most cases are painless.

However, in some children, flat feet may cause complaints/problems such as fatigue, leg pain, reluctance to run and shoe deformation, knee bending and finger deformities.

Physical examination and X-rays of the feet are used in the diagnosis.
Treatment approach:

  • Observation is sufficient in mild and asymptomatic cases
  • Individualized insoles are used in painful or progressive cases
  • In severe deformities, tendon repairs, bone correction surgeries can be planned

Early intervention enables the child to take part in daily activities with self-confidence.
